Tenure-track faculty position in Microelectronic Systems

The University of Liège (ULg) invites applications for a tenure-track full-time faculty position in “Microelectronic Systems” in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Montefiore Institute) of the School of Engineering and Computer Science, to be filled by January 1st, 2018.

The University of Liège

Founded in 1817, the Université de Liège offers a complete range of university courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It is divided into eleven faculties: Philosophy and Letters; Law, Political Science and Criminology; Sciences; Medicine; Applied Sciences; Veterinary Medicine; Psychology and Education; HEC Management School; Human and Social Sciences; Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech; and Architecture.

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Montefiore Institute)

At the School of engineering and computer science of the University of Liège, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) offers several programs to undergraduate and graduate students. Since the end of the 19th century, it has developed a leading edge tradition in teaching and research in a range of basic and applied topics in various areas of Information and Communication Technologies, Computer Science, Electronics, Power Systems and Applied Mathematics, and it targets its efforts to contribute in application fields of societal importance, such as biomedical engineering, materials, energy systems, information systems, robotics, and transportation.

The department has a long-standing tradition of international recruitment at the Faculty level, and organizes all its Master’s programs in English.

Description of the position

The new faculty member will develop research in microelectronic systems in the EECS department, with a focus on one or several of the following areas: microsystems / MEMS / NEMS, systems on chips, energy harvesting, microsensors / biosensors, biomedical applications, micropower systems, analog and digital IC design. He/she will have access to the Microsys facilities (http://www.microsys.ulg.ac.be), which include a clean room (200 m2 ) and equipment for the production, characterization, and encapsulation of microelectronic systems.

He/she will also take part in the teaching activities of the department, both at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels (in the domains of Digital electronics, Microelectronics and IC design, Microsystems, Bioelectronics).

The selected candidate will be appointed for a 4-year tenure track, with a possibility of tenuring after 3 years.

Qualifications

– A Dr or PhD degree;

– A high-level research experience in microelectronics and its applications to one or several areas of electrical engineering, computer science, and/or biomedical engineering;

– A strong commitment in both fundamental and applied research, and a strong interest for teaching.

Target starting date: 1st of January 2018

Application procedure

For fullest consideration, applications should be sent by registered mail to Prof. Albert Corhay, Rector, University of Liège, Place du 20 Août, 7 (Bât. A1), 4000 Liège, with reference “Charge à temps plein en Systèmes Microélectroniques Intégrés”, before July 9th, 2017. However, the position will remain open until filled.
